Linked – With smart cities, your every step will be recorded

No worries, I’m sure no one would ever misuse this much data, right?

Although they have huge potential to make life better, the possibility of increasingly smarter cities also raises serious privacy concerns. Through sensors embedded into our cities, and the smartphones in our pockets, smart cities will have the power to constantly identify where people are, who they are meeting and even perhaps what they are doing.

Between autonomous cars, surveillance cameras and facial recognition, we don’t even necessarily need to walk around with a cell phone to be tracked, either. All of these systems will have a complete, detailed, history of everything we’ve done, everywhere we’ve been, and everyone we’ve met.

It’s Mao and Stalin’s wet dream isn’t it?
