Or to take the takeaway even further, the next time you’re negotiating a higher salary, negotiate more time off instead? It’s good for your heart after all. Not to mention your mental health.
Of course, what is only briefly mentioned is how much you are still “connected” to work while on vacation, and how that might impact the results. Anecdotally, I don’t think a vacation where you are still answering emails or taking phone calls does much to reduce your stress levels, nor does coming back to a weeks worth of undone work, but then neither does working all the time.
