It’s a huge challenge. We have no control over updates, and Microsoft is increasingly releasing new features before they build out the compliance tools that would allow us to manage them. As Tony pointed out above, agents may have critical impacts on current security and data privacy work. No matter, it’s coming. Figure it out.Â
As I mentioned during the ILTA session last month, I don’t see how organizations will function without a dedicated staff to monitor and communicate changes. Consider just how much work is involved in understanding Copilot and all of the compliance issues surrounding the use of AI, then consider how fast Microsoft is rolling out new Copilot features. It’s been a moving target since day one.Â
It’s only a small part of the M365 environment.Â
I’ve seen many people in the L&D space talk about using AI for training, and I think there is a place for it. There is also a place for deep learning that isn’t assisted by an AI tool. For instance, I don’t use AI to write for me. As someone who puts out as much written content as I do, you may find that surprising, but I tried it and quickly realized it wasn’t for me. Why? Because the writing process is part of my learning process. Taking information I see or read and trying to share in a way that makes sense to the reader is an integral part of understanding it better. You could argue that this blog is mainly for me, not the readers because as I try to understand legal technology, I must write about it. I need to turn around and explain it.Â
The entire system is based on the license plate database being connected to all of the automated plate readers. All it took for this to become a problem was for part of that not to stay safe. Since the license plate database isn’t, anyone can create a fake license plate, pop it on a similar-looking vehicle, and the collected data is tainted. All those people who had nothing to hide now have a system that assumes they were driving illegally, causing accidents, etc. They are facing actual fines, increased insurance costs, and possible arrests because of surveillance data that’s been hacked. Data that should show them as innocent but false information has been injected into it.
