Worth Reading – The Real Cost of Poor Leadership in Workplaces

I previously mentioned the number of managers who lack the time to attend leadership training. This research in Australia shows us the consequences:

We’ve all had a boss who made work feel heavier than it should. In Aussie workplaces, poor leadership fuels burnout, turnover, and fading team spirit.

I want to grab this quote that tells us why many workplace cultures are a disaster:

That’s the real cost of poor leadership. You don’t always see it in reports or profit margins. You see it in people heading home completely drained. In smart ideas that never make it to the table. And in good staff who quietly start polishing up their CVs.

It happens slowly, but it happens. Day by day, people give up. They stop trying to fix anything, disengage, and the work becomes a little less effective until one day things are a complete mess.

When good talent does leave, as the article mentions, they often cite the need to get away from their manager. However, bad managers don’t exist in a vacuum. They are created in a poor culture, which comes straight from the top.
