What I’m reading with my coffee

Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like if you’re going to make a major media announcement about the new look of your homepage you should make something truly different. The new beta Yahoo page just moves things around. (Probably so that the banner ads show up mid-page instead of at the top where they can be easily ignored, right Yahoo? Bleech!)

Steven’s response to my “deep thinking” blog:

Deep thinking? You’ve got a “deep thinking” blog? What is this world coming to? Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can think deep thoughts at will and blog them. There is a pestilence upon this land. Nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design shrubberies are under considerable economic stress at this period in history..

Nothing like starting your morning with a Holy Grail reference. 🙂

Speaking of deep thinking, I’ve added The Volokh Conspiracy to the blogroll. Reading that blog will give the old brain a good workout!

Hmm I think I’m going to have to spend more time this summer doing reflective activities. Walking to the local library yesterday evening (where I picked up a copy of Small Pieces Loosely Joined, can’t wait to dig into that!) resulted in a few thoughts that turned into that post over there. Don’t worry, I’ll keep all my reflective, “deep” thoughts over there, it’s a more appropriate place. But if you are interested, you might want to click over every now and then.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to write up some documentation. That should keep me from having any more deep thoughts for awhile.

I’ve gotten an email from the guy hosting the Child Abuse site. The information he has is sketchy at this point, but the server on which the site sits has been shutdown, as part of a defense against a DDoS attack on that subnet. That’s all we know at this point. Hopefully it will be…

From Scripting News: This is so beautiful and symmetric. An ISP is banning the RIAA from its network. Now, let’s all of us think of ways we can erase the RIAA from our lives. This could get interesting. Indeed it will be interesting to watch this unfold. Surely the RIAA, once given power to monitor…

I guess the new addition of the TableEditor turned out to be a double-edged sword last night. Yes, someone did leave a comment that was nothing more than “come visit my blog” with a link, and yes I did delete it. Unfortunately, I also left a comment by Anita that referred to said spam comment,…

Well our event went pretty well, of course there were some screwups and setbacks but nothing that any of the attendees noticed, so that’s the mark of a successful event, right? All of our tech stuff has been accounted for and is still in working condition. Our intern got to actually have a computer this…
