Catching up on some news

Taking a few minutes this morning to play catch up with the news of the blogosphere:

Steven: Find the apps that you and your tasks need, then select the platform that makes the most sense based on that finding -Wow, a calm, rational, objective statement about choosing an Operating System. Will wonders never cease? *L* Seriously though, it’s an excellent point! When people ask me for advice or recommendations on what computer they should buy, the first thing out of my mouth is “What are you going to use it for?”. The person using it to surf the web and email long lost relatives is going to want a different computer than the person editing his digital movies, wouldn’t you think?

Spotted the open letter to John Ashcroft the other day as well. All I’ve got to say to that is it must have been a hell of a job that the Justice Department has done in fighting domestic terrorism, illegal drugs, corporate fraud, etc.. Afterall if they now have the time and resources to make arresting people who use P2P networks to copy music a top priority, those other things must be completely finished, eh? Take a good hard look at the Senators and Representatives who signed that letter and understand exactly who they have sold out to.

Hmm seems as though I had fewer minutes than I thought, and well, nothing else really got my writing mojo going this morning anyway. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to write an email explaining how to change your printer defaults, because no matter how many times I say it, some people still don’t get it.

    Yawn..

Late night last night, because what should have been a simple upgrade turned into badness. The machine I’ve been running VMWare at home on only had 256MB of RAM. I’ve been wanting to give the Virtual Machines more RAM to work with, and finally, the computer store near me had a couple of PC100 256MB…

  • Back from vacation

Nothing like spending 4 days unconnected to any internet service, exploring the sights of Vegas and surrounding area with my wife as a way to celebrate our third anniversary. We had a great time, lots of laughs, lots of fun and took lots of pictures, which I’m sure we’ll have online some time soon. Of…

  • Feeling incomplete

When I went to the eye doctor on Friday, the fine folks at DOC told me I could use the same frames that I had been using but that because the frames had some small scratches, I’d be better off getting new lenses. No problem, except for the fact that they no longer have an…

  • One of those mornings

Quiet blog today, I’m having one of those “Do any of you people even pay attention to what goes on around here, or do you just wait for me to do it for you?” mornings…. Sometimes trying to be good at your job, and staying on top of things, just isn’t worth it when no…

  • The arms race continues

There are a number of arms races going on, hackers, spammers, etc. This one’s about popups. Some folks figured out how to use Flash to get around Firefox’s pop-up blocker, and thanks to a post on Steve Holden’s blog, I see that someone had figured out a config change to combat that. Sheesh next thing…
