I hate when that happens
Don’t you just love opening up Outlook over the weekend and discovering that some used your domain as a “from” address whilst spamming and now you’re left to deal with all the bounce-backs? There’s really nothing like watching the Inbox count go all the way up to almost 300, and then watch as SpamBayes identifies the bounces as spam and the Inbox count goes all the way back to zero. That’s a whole lot of processing power for nothing.
At least the from address wasn’t one I used, so I was able to go to the server and tell it to discard all mail sent to that address.

You have no idea how lucky you are with them using only on address on your domain. A little over 4 weeks ago, I suddenly started receiving bounces from my domain, but with every conceivable prefix. I got to be pretty good at using all of Outlooks tools for filtering, both on subject lines and eventually on countries of origin. Foreign language bounces were the most annoying. Apparently my domain name went into a spam botnet, so the spoofed emails were being sent from all over the world. The most interesting source was the Korean government network, imagine that, a government computer being comprimised, lol.
Today I am celebrating no bounced emails for the first time in over 23,000 bounced emails. I can just imagine how many more got through…
Ed, believe me I know it could have been worse, there was just something comical watching all that email come in, and then watching it all get filtered right back out. 🙂
