ILTA09 Online Itinerary

ByMike McBride July 13, 2009 Reading Time: 1 minute

Not very long ago I mentioned that I thought the Dublin Irish Festival’s Social Planner was a great idea for the upcoming ILTA09 conference, and then at the end of last week, I got an email about the ILTA09 online planner.

Unfortunately, there’s no option for sharing your itinerary, but I can print it, so perhaps, when I figure out which sessions and events I’m going to be attending, I’ll just toss a PDF version up here and let anyone who wants to look me up, access it here. (With all appropriate Twitter and Facebook sharing as well…)

Who else is going to be there? Let me know and we’ll be sure to grab coffee or a drink!

Linked: The Metaverse Via Oculus Is Awkward if You’re a Woman. And Beware of Griefers
ByMike McBride December 17, 2021December 16, 2021 Reading Time: 2 minutes

Why it’s almost as if trolls will be trolls, creeps will be creeps, and people will continue to be everything they are on social media or yes, even in person. Because while those who seem to think that the virtual reality and presence of a real voice will somehow dim the hate and harassment that comes from a network where you can be anonymous, we can see plenty of real-life examples where being identifiable didn’t stop anyone from acting this way. I mean, half the folks who took part in Jan. 6 bragged about it on social media for days. Do you really think a little VR is going to make them suddenly self-conscious?

It’s a humanity issue, not a tech issue. No “new” tech that allows people to interact in real-time is going to be without it.

I’d Quit Facebook But That’s Where My Friends Are
ByMike McBride December 12, 2018December 12, 2018 Reading Time: 2 minutes

The title of this post is my attempt at paraphrasing a conversation I had with a friend last week. A friend I used to work with, who I no longer see on any kind of regular basis because we live 3-4 states apart now. The idea she was trying to convey was something I think…

Future of Twitter – Segmentation
ByMike McBride February 1, 2010 Reading Time: 3 minutes

In several recent conversations on Twitter, and elsewhere, I’ve been noticing a bit of a trend. Seems like some of the “add-on” services that use Twitter to piggy back the social aspects of their own service, FourSquare being a prime example, seem to have an interesting effect on how followers interact with some of the…

Knowledge Workers and Overtime Pay
ByMike McBride August 13, 2009July 22, 2014 Reading Time: 3 minutes

If this sounds familiar, it’s probably because it’s similar to my Second Rule for Knowledge Workers, the 40 hour illusion. Seems we’ve had a few cases of workers being asked to carry blackberry’s, or use VPN to log in to work during their off hours to answer questions, (share their “knowledge” with their employers), and…

Facebook Making Pages More Useless
ByMike McBride March 22, 2014March 28, 2014 Reading Time: 1 minute

Given recent history of Facebook not showing posts from pages that you’ve liked and actually want to see posts from, the fact that they are coming out now and telling page owners that they are going to be displayed to even fewer fans in the future has me thinking about just dropping my Facebook pages…

Quick Thought – What Does Your Organization Celebrate?
ByMike McBride December 14, 2020December 13, 2020 Reading Time: 1 minute

Recently I was logged in to a webinar and one of the presenters starting talking about his company’s long history of going above and beyond. Things like driving all night with hardware in the trunk of their car, or the countless all-nighters people have pulled to write scripts or deal with ridiculous deadlines and tough…
