New Facebook Feature – Interest Lists?

I’ll be honest, I just saw this tonight, and had no idea it was there previously, but as an interesting follow up to my recent experiment with how many fans of my page are actually seeing the posts made there, I discovered that Facebook has a new option when you mouse over the “Like” button, the option to add the page to an interest list. Choosing it prompts you to create a new list and add friends, subscriptions and pages to it. A very interesting idea indeed. Has anyone started using it and have any opinions to share?

    Google Is Not A Source

http://www.freetech4teachers.com/2014/12/how-not-to-cite-image.html You don’t credit a photographer by listing the search engine as the source of the image. Likewise, you don’t credit Google when you search for a news article, or a blog post. Follow the link and find the actual source. Don’t be lazy. This also goes for Flickr, Picasa, SmugMug, Reddit, etc. Someone posted…

    Why I like Tweetdeck

Over the weekend, after seeing quite a few references to it, I decided to download Tweetdeck and check it out for myself. The idea of breaking the people I follow on Twitter into different groups was sort of intriguing, but I wasn’t exactly sure how it would work out in practice. As I began to…

Linked – To save itself, Facebook must start charging users

I completely disagree with this take: First, Facebook should charge users a nominal $5-a-month fee. You can give seniors a discount so you don’t lose them. Netflix does, Amazon does, Apple does. It would make Facebook rely less on selling user data. That’s a misreading of what Facebook is. Netflix, Amazon and Apple charge users…

  • Linked: Amplify possibility

Seth has some keen insight into the way social media works, and I think these paragraphs are spot on, and also something we, as users of social media, need to remind ourselves of daily:

“And so the social networks created a game, a game in which you ‘win’ by being notorious, outrageous or, as they coined the phrase, “authentic.” The whole world is watching, if you’re willing to put on a show.

That’s not how the world actually works. The successful people in your community or your industry (please substitute ‘happy’ for successful in that sentence) don’t act the way the influencers on Twitter, YouTube or Facebook do. That’s all invented, amplified stagecraft, it’s not the actual human condition.”

  • Google Reader

On Kevin’s suggestion in the comments, I’m giving Google Reader another try. I tried the old version and really didn’t like it, but I decided to give it another shot after so many people talked it up so much after they upgraded. We’ll see how it goes. The one thing I’m not going to change…
