Linked – Cyberbullying Is Pervasive and Parents Are Oblivious
“Of the 1,000 U.S. parents surveyed, 44 percent said they have never looked at their child’s Facebook or Instagram accounts.”
As many of you know, I write about child abuse elsewhere, and one of the things that always catches my interest is anything that involves kids being targeted online, whether it be bullying from other kids, or being targeted by adults for bullying or sexual abuse.
And in all of those cases, the thing that never cease to amaze me are parents willing to let their kids use technology or social networks that they, themselves, don’t understand.
Parents, I’m sorry, but it’s on you to stay up to date with the tech your kids are using, and to be able to keep track of what they are doing, who they are talking to, and who is talking to them.
Maybe, if more parents paid attention to their kids social media accounts, fewer of them would feel free to bully in the first place?
