Linked – Depositions Instead of Searching for Responsive Email?

Excuse me, what?

“The two custodians purportedly had over one million emails, that were 300 gigabytes of data, which would cost $30,000 to export, search, and review. Id.”

Good lord, doesn’t anyone enforce responsible deletion policies? Why are these two people hanging on to a million emails? Why, why, why?

This situation shouldn’t even exist, let alone be a discovery issue.
