Linked – Huge MIT Study of ‘Fake News’: Falsehoods Win on Twitter
It’s true, fake news spreads farther, and faster, than the truth, but it’s not really Twitter’s fault:
“And blame for this problem cannot be laid with our robotic brethren. From 2006 to 2016, Twitter bots amplified true stories as much as they amplified false ones, the study found. Fake news prospers, the authors write, “because humans, not robots, are more likely to spread it.”
Yet, even this story calls for better technology and better information distribution channels. Twitter and Facebook didn’t create and spread fake news, we did. Maybe we should focus on making better humans?
Oh wait, that would require training people to think for themselves and I don’t believe either political party has much interest in that!
