Linked – IBM bans all removable storage, for all staff, everywhere

It makes sense, even if it does prove to be a royal pain every once in awhile. I’ve seen this policy in place on occasion, including when we wanted to do training using USB keys for the software licenses. Had to work around that!

“Big Blue’s doing this because “the possible financial and reputational damage from misplaced, lost or misused removable portable storage devices must be minimised.”

I suspect, as the penalties for not protecting data continue to rise, that we’ll see more steps taken, and some of them are going to be painful for users.
