Social Media Video Creation Tool – Lumen5

ByMike McBride May 24, 2018May 23, 2018 Reading Time: 1 minute

I actually saw this service mentioned a few weeks ago by Chris Brogan and wanted to try it out, so I took some text from an old post on my Child Abuse Survivor blog and spent about 5 minutes creating this video to share on Instagram.

Messing around a bit with a service called Lumen5. I gave it some text from an old blog post and it turned it into a fun little video. This is after about 5 minutes of editing. I’m looking forward to getting into it more. #healing #childabuse #runners

As mentioned in the post, I accepted a lot of defaults and spent most of that 5 minutes trimming it down to Instagram’s 60 second limit for videos. I’m looking forward to spending some more time playing with the free version to see what I can create.

Even the Pope Wants You on Twitter
ByMike McBride January 28, 2013January 27, 2013 Reading Time: 2 minutes

If you think about it, the Pope’s recent encouragement to believers to spread the Church’s message on Twitter and other social networking tools makes perfect sense. If you go back and ask the ever popular question about “What Would Jesus Do?”, I think it’s pretty clear that the same guy who reached out to the…

And You Get Ad Blocking, And You Get Ad-Blocking
ByMike McBride June 11, 2015 Reading Time: 1 minute

Between last week’s news that Google might be putting in a feature to block flash ads from automatically playing, and this week’s news that Apple is including ad-blocking as part of the Safari browser for mobile, am I the only one who wonders how the ad-supported web economy will survive? Linked – Twitter to end free access to its API in Elon Musk’s latest monetization push
ByMike McBride February 2, 2023February 2, 2023 Reading Time: 2 minutes

Think about it, services that tell you how many times your post has been shared on Twitter, auto-posting from a blog, automation involving automatic sharing of links, and scheduling of tweets, many of these things involve the API. Many of the tools we all use to share content on Twitter with minimal effort could either be gone or become more expensive next week. That will push a lot of excellent content out of the platform.

Linked: Over 1 million GoDaddy WordPress accounts breached
ByMike McBride November 23, 2021November 23, 2021 Reading Time: 2 minutes

The breach of the WordPress credentials is bad, as is the sFTP credentials. Sure, if you are still using the same WordPress password that GoDaddy assigned to you when you started the account, you really need to step up your game.

WordPress is an inviting target, because getting admin access to a WordPress install, or really any other content management system, makes it super easy to lock out the original owner and inject anything you want into the site. Want a place to spread malware in drive-by injections? Nothing like an already existing, and maybe even trusted, WordPress site, eh?

New Beta Friendfeed Unveils Friend lists, gets better
ByMike McBride August 25, 2008July 20, 2014 Reading Time: 1 minute

Friendfeed rolled out a new beta, with some new features. My favorite, and the one that really does help make Friendfeed better is Friends list. Finally, I can separate out my tech contacts from my personal contacts, or maybe the folks who write a lot about social media and tend to create a lot of…

Mainstream media
ByMike McBride February 2, 2007September 12, 2014 Reading Time: 1 minute

I overheard, not in the literal sense but secondhand, an IT professional lamenting the lack of media coverage about the Daylight Savings time switch and the possible affect on computer systems. Apparently, in cases like this, he likes to send an alert to the folks he supports and send them a link to CNN or…
