IFTTT No Longer An Option for Storing Photos to Google

Got this email earlier from IFTTT (If This Then That):

On Friday, March 15th, Google Photos and its associated Applets will be removed from IFTTT.

Originally built in-house by our team, the Google Photos service uses the Picasa Web Albums API, which is being deprecated.

We support Google’s decisions, though we know it will be a disappointment to the IFTTT community who found their Applets valuable. There is a new Google Photos API that we’d love to work with Google to integrate onto the IFTTT Platform when they are ready.

Thank you for your understanding,

The IFTTT Team

So, if you’re using an applet to drop a copy of Instagram or Flickr photos over to Google Photos as a backup, you are going to need to go back to doing that manually. At least for now.

Hopefully it won’t be too long before Google and IFTTT work together and let us get back to automating that functionality!
