Worth Reading – Do employees feel comfortable talking to HR about mental health?

The short answer is: “No.”

Less than half of employees feel comfortable talking to HR about their mental health challenges, according to a new whitepaper, which underscored the importance of trust in addressing these issues at work.

There’s that word, trust, again. Your employees aren’t going to talk to you about their mental health; they are not going to use your employee assistance program, and they’re not going to ask for the things that might help them be successful at work because they don’t trust you.

Why should they?

Seriously, why should they? Look around at the layoffs, forced returns to the office when it doesn’t make sense, the micromanaging, the focus on shareholders above and beyond anything else, including the people who work for companies, and ask yourself a simple question.

What have you done to prove that you’re not like every other company in your industry and worthy of their trust?
