Worth Reading – ‘Just Record Every Meeting’ Is The New Norm. It’s Also A CIO Headache
Is it a rising trend? Yes. Should every meeting be recorded? Probably not.
A rising trend says companies should record every meeting, call, and interaction. The legal, security, and compliance risks are real.

I talk about the risks every day. Where is that recording? Who can access it? How do you keep it safe, etc.?
If your data gets breached, how many people will you have to notify? Not just the transcript of what they said, but the recording of them- the audio of their voice, etc. has been breached as well. We don’t often talk about the risk that creates, but it does. Deepfake audio and video tools don’t require much existing video or audio of someone to generate convincing fakes. How much liability do you have for content you lost in a breach if it’s used that way?
That’s one danger. In the enterprise, recording someone without their knowledge may also be illegal in your area. So all these little devices designed to grab audio/video from your end of a virtual meeting to avoid joining, or to record in-person interactions from your pocket, might be breaking the law.
And yes, that includes the new Copilot Record feature. I’m not saying these aren’t great accessibility tools. They are. But bringing them to every interaction might be a bit too much.
The other thing to consider is that it’s human nature to act differently when we know someone is recording us. If every interaction is being recorded, you will always get the version of someone who knows they’re being recorded. Open, honest conversation will be dead.
Does that sound like the kind of society you want to live in?
