The real question is not whether they add it but how. The Internet of Things created many insecure devices because people slapped an internet connection on things that weren’t needed without considering making them safe or usable. Networks got hacked through fish tanks, and people were terrorized by someone taking control of their smart homes. Forcing internet connections on everything turned out not to be so great.
Will forcing AI into everything have a similar result?
Technology, especially M365 technology, changes all the time. It’s vast and complicated, and things get broken when new versions are rolled out. When dealing with eDiscovery, security, privacy, etc., we have to stay on top of those changes to understand new features and ensure the old ones still work the same way.
Don’t assume the old ones will always work the same way. I can tell you from this and plenty of other experiences they often don’t.

I’ve heard a few folks in the legal industry talking about how much more expensive renewals are becoming because every tech tool is adding AI, and as we know, AI isn’t cheap. Someone has to pay for it, and it looks like that’ll be all of us, in the form of higher prices for the tools we use to get our work done just fine the way they are now.
Not because we need it. They need it to show growth and satisfy investors. The fact they are likely creating a bubble that will burst and end dozens of perfectly profitable companies will be chalked up to bad luck.
