Linked – Social networking is dead

I don’t know if I agree with Mike Elgan’s declaration completely, but I will totally agree with this, and the superiority of blogs and RSS feeds to get what is truly important to you.

Meanwhile, the open, user-owned media are good. Blogs and podcasts are good. RSS is good. Email is good.

You can’t get that from any website that is making money by keeping you on the site and addicted to checking for notifications. Social networks can be good for some things, but we’ve allowed them way too much power over us and what we see. It’s time to take that power back.
