I found this opening paragraph pretty interesting in and of itself.
With the current uncertainty in our daily lives, many people are more stressed than ever. Conventional wisdom says to eat well, exercise, and relax to reduce stress. While that’s all great advice, studies show that learning may relieve stress better than relaxing. In recent studies, learning helped reduce negative emotions associated with stress more than relaxing during the day. Reducing stress can improve your mood and help you sleep better. Who doesn’t need a sunnier outlook and a good night’s sleep?
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, as pandemic rolled into protests, rolled back into more pandemic, and then masks becoming the biggest political issue of the day. How do we continue to function, to keep getting up and working every day in the midst of this? And why do so many people seem to be getting new skills, or certifications during all of these?
Maybe, it helps keep our anxious brain from going overboard if we are also trying to learn something new. So, that new project you’re taking on, that new work skill you’ve been asked to cultivate? It might be just the thing you need.
But still rest, and all the other stuff too.
