Linked – ILTA 2024 Survey suggests chasm between small and large law firms’ Gen AI plans & use

This tidbit wasn’t surprising to me:

While ILTA is at pains to emphasise that Gen AI accounts for only one tenth of its annual survey findings, one of the more interesting details highlighted ahead of its release is that asked: ‘What are your firm’s plans for Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365’, just over a third of smaller firms (37%) said “none.” That compares with 0% of the largest firms.

It’s no secret that larger firms have more resources. It’s also no secret that Copilot, while an individual tool, requires resources to manage the M365 environment within which it works. Managing data security and access is no small part of a successful Copilot rollout. Smaller firms are less likely to have the available resources to do that.

It’s an important reminder. Sure, you can hand out licenses for Copilot and let attornies start using it, but doing so safely is a much larger project.

Projects require resources.
