Don’t try this on dial-up

It took me a good hour and a half to get Windows XP Service Pack 1 downloaded and installed on the new PC, and that was over a T1 line! I imagine if I were stuck with a dialup I would just order the cd version, eh? 🙂

Anyhow, that took up a good chunk of my morning, I’m now installing software and don’t seem to be running into too many difficulties. I have to run our database in NT compatible mode, but I knew that going in. I also had to find the Web Publishing Wizard on the MS site because the Office 2000 cd wouldn’t install any of the IE 5 components over the IE 6 that came with the machine, so I had to find and separately download that component so I could publish my Outlook calendar as a web page. (We are Exchange Server-less, publishing calendar info to a web page is the only option we have for sharing it. *sigh*)

One note to self, this machine needs speakers. There is no internal sound device, ordering it without speakers was not a good idea. Luckily I have a spare set at home that I originally took from work, because no one was using them, so I’ll bring those back.

Other than that it seems to be going fairly well, much testing to be done before I declare it done and wipe my current machine’s hard drive though.

Yup, I’m knee deep in this ethics policy that we’re working on. I will say that I…
