AI Eats Everything – Micron Kills off Consumer Sales of RAM
From a business perspective, this makes sense:
Sumit Sadana, EVP and Chief Business Officer at Micron Technology, stated: “The AI-driven growth in the data center has led to a surge in demand for memory and storage. Micron has made the difficult decision to exit the Crucial consumer business in order to improve supply and support for our larger, strategic customers in faster-growing segments.”
With the demand for chips, processors, and memory from AI data centers, there’s a ton of money to be made, and selling small amounts of these same parts to computer enthusiasts is a distraction that isn’t worth the effort.
Of course, if the AI bubble bursts, some of these companies may regret moving the entire business to AI data centers, but until that happens, there is a lot of money to be made.
It’s hard to argue with that.
