If you want to challenge yourself to learn something deeply, start figuring out how you would train someone to do it. If your employer doesn’t have an opening for a full-time trainer, create some opportunities to cross-train with your team, to reach out across teams and help teach them some of your skills, or to introduce them to some new technology that is coming. The skills you develop with come in handy, and you’ll be showing off some serious leadership skills as well, something that is probably in short supply in your industry. It is in most, anyway.
You have to create a culture where everyone is expected to verify information before acting, even when it’s coming from the CEO or Managing Partner.
What are you doing to create an environment where your people feel free to take the time necessary to evaluate the difference between a scam and legitimate communication and the ability to question authority in order to get more information?
Sometimes communicating effectively feels a lot like over-communicating. Especially if your team is hybrid or remote, go ahead and over-communicate. There’s no telling how much better your team will understand what you were trying to tell them when they hear or see it a number of times.
How does anyone work like this? Is it possible that 95% of those working for your organization don’t even get the company strategy? Probably because 93% of them feel like they aren’t being communicated with clearly.
They focus on hybrid work, I think these commandments should be applied in every situation. I don’t care if you all work in the office full-time, remotely across the country full-time, or any combination in between.
Intention, communication, setting expectations, and living the example will go a long way with your team. There’s no reason to not follow these commandments for working as a team, regardless of location. This is a great outline for how to set the rules of engagement, provide the proper tools and solid communication, and continually measure the effectiveness of what you’re doing.
