Sometimes it’s not a lack of training

I saw this newsletter pop into my inbox recently. Though some of it is behind a firewall, I wanted to share it with you anyway because even reading part of it is enough to remind us that it’s not always about training employees:

55 things people need instead of training

Brandon reminds us that employees need more than training to be successful. They also need the proper processes, tools, technology, direction, and communication.

The training department can’t provide those things.

Think of it this way: As a technology trainer, I can teach you everything there is to know about a specific technology, but it won’t solve anything if it’s not the proper technology for the job that needs to be done or if the job isn’t well-defined. That’s a different problem.

Have you been asked to provide training when the problem wasn’t a lack of employee knowledge before?
