Lost day

I had big plans for getting caught up at work today. I knew there were some other big projects on the horizon, and two new people starting today, but I figured to have most of the day to run year-end and month-end reports, clean up some of the extraneous equipment laying around my office, and get everyone settled in. Unfortunately the guy coming to install our new Canon Imagerunner C3100N decided mid day today would be a good day to show up and do the install, and then ran into complications with our graphic designer’s Mac. We spent 4 hours of the day working on that, and have only managed to setup the Mac and one PC so far! So not only did I not get half of what I wanted to get done today done, I’ve got to do the system management setup on the 3100N, about 15 more PC’s that need a print driver installed as soon as possible too. It just keeps piling up on me…

I know I haven’t been a very good blogger lately. There have been a number of things I wanted to write about on both sites but just haven’t found the time to do it. I’ve had a number of tech projects at home that I’ve wanted to work on, and write about and just haven’t found the time to do them. On the other hand, there are some things on the horizon that I’m going to be involved with or making contributions to this year that I’m looking forward to writing about on here. Hopefully I’ll be finding the free time to fill you all in on the details, and get back to posting fuller thoughts about things soon instead of just quick hits all the time!

Seen at Geek News Central, Zoomr, an on-line photo-sharing service similar to Flickr is giving away free pro accounts to bloggers. That’s actually not a bad idea to generate some Buzz, especially when Flickr has really become the market leader and beaten you to that Buzz. When that’s the case, you definitely have to get…

Linked – 74% Of Millennials & Gen Z Think They Can Build Better Skills At A New Job

These people have watched companies “reward” the loyalty of Boomer and Gen X employees with layoffs, unfunded pensions, forced retirements, etc. They aren’t going to be loyal for the sake of loyalty to a company that will cut their job at the first sniff of an economic downturn. They will go to the place that benefits them the most.

If you’re not interested in providing skills and career development, don’t expect people to work for you. It’s not worth it.

  • First Day

Not only was today my first day at the new job, but it was also rollout day for a new document management system firm-wide. Yes, over 300 people had to deal with coming into the office and having to work in a different environment than the one they left Friday. That meant a whole lot…

  • Add-ons

Looks like Microsoft has some interesting things in the plans as far as add-on’s for Windows Server 2003. The most interesting thing I saw was the Virtual Server that would let businesses migrate to 2003 but still have a place to run legacy applications that aren’t compatible with 2003. That one, I think, will be…

  • In the Trenches hits the big time..

Kevin’s little podcast gets a nice mention in the big Wired News article about podcasting that’s making all the rounds. More nice comments about In The Trenches from Doc Searls and Dave Slusher too. Good job Kevin! You deserve all this attention for putting together a great resource, I consider myself lucky to have been…

  • Low-key OneNote?

I was just reading through one of the tech newsletters we get from ASAE today, and I noticed this tidbit: “Microsoft has quietly released a program that seems to have escaped much mainstream interest. Called OneNote, this intriguing software gives you a flexible place to save and catalog unstructured information. And, once it is saved,…
